How We Began
We are Jimmy and Susan Goudeau, parents of Claire. This is how the Claire Renee' Goudeau Memorial Fund, Inc. began.....
In the year 2000, Claire was in the fourth grade at St. Jean Vianney Catholic School in Baton Rouge, LA. In October of that year, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem tumor. Claire died just before the end of the school year on May 2, 2001. The Claire Renee Goudeau Memorial Scholarship was established that same year to honor Claire’s memory by dedicating funds for scholarships to students at St. Jean Vianney Catholic School. We are thankful to have the prayers and support of the school and church parish community.
The first scholarships were presented in May 2002. Every year since its beginning, at least one scholarship has been presented annually to a fourth grade student entering fifth grade. Special scholarship awards were made to one of Claire’s classmates in 2002, 2003, and 2004.
With the support of St. Jean Vianney Catholic School and our Board of Directors, we award the scholarship based on personal characteristics of the candidates including love of school, love of others, and commitment to excellence in school and personal life, doing what you have to do even when you don’t feel like it and doing it the best you are able.
As of May 2021 we have presented over 54 scholarships and exceeded $145,000 in awards.
