[sg] In 2000, when our daughter Claire was in the fourth grade, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem tumor. Claire passed away on May 2, 2001, just before the end of the school year — on the day of the school Mass, just as it is today. The Claire Renee Goudeau Memorial Scholarship was created to honor Claire’s beautiful spirit by supporting scholarships for students at St. Jean Vianney Catholic School. We are deeply grateful for the prayers, love, and support of the SJV community. Your kindness has blessed our family in countless ways and continues to do so. [jg]Each year, we invite someone special to share a few words about Claire’s life and the impact she continues to have. This year, we are honored to welcome Mr. Tom Gibbs, a dear friend, a husband, father and grandfather, and a valued member of our Board of Directors. Thank you, Tom, for being with us today. [Mr. Gibbs presentation can be viewed using the link posted at the start of this post] [sg] The Claire Renee Goudeau Memorial Scholarship is awarded based on personal qualities that reflect living in the image of Christ — including a love of learning, a love of others, perseverance through challenges, and a commitment to doing your best even when it is difficult. We are deeply grateful to Mrs. Ross, and the fourth-grade teachers, Ms. Calix and Ms. Augillard, for their support throughout this process. Our board of directors approached the final selections with prayerful consideration and found the decision particularly challenging, given the exceptional character of the candidates here at St. Jean Vianney. [jg] This year, each scholarship recipient will receive: • A full scholarship for their fifth-grade school year • A crystal cross with a bronze medallion, donated by Southern Crafts • The book For Heaven’s Sake by Jeanie Bondy, Claire’s godmother • A gift certificate from Inka’s Uniforms, donated by Claire’s aunt and uncle, Beth and Chris Winkler, and her cousins, Robbie Winkler and Allison Lamb, along with Allison’s husband, Jake. The 1st Scholarship goes to Ayra Magallan The 2nd Scholarship goes to Cruz Couture The 3rd Scholarship goes to Mary Charlotte Edwards We are grateful to be part of a community that shares in Claire’s legacy of faith, hope, and love. May we all continue to walk in Christ’s light, just as Claire did, and may her memory draw us closer to Him.
